Got My Booty in Gear

With school out I’ve finally got my butt back in gear when it comes to working out. For weeks I’ve been a hermit who just stayed inside memorizing bio terms and working out chem equations. I didn’t feel like working out when I was sleeping, eating, and breathing science. All that work definitely paid off for bio, chem was a little shaky but still good.

Anyway, I’m back to running. I changed my route to avoid the house with the pit bull and so far everything has been bueno! Right now my routine has been run 3x a week, zumba 2x a week, and sometimes I’ll throw in a random DVD workout on the remaining days.

I’ll just leave you with a look at what I’ve been up to so in recent weeks:

A Year Older and a Tad Bit Wiser

25th bday


Yesterday I turned 25. I’m not sure how I feel about it. It’s an age that just seems so official. Like a big wake up call that you are ACTUALLY an adult.

Apparently at 25 you start breaking out like you’re a teenager again. Thankfully, this Target Anti Blackhead and Blemish Scrub is working after just one use.

You also hear from a ton of people you’re halfway to 50.

You can legally rent a car.

You realize your boyfriend is really old too because after 6 years of wishing you happy birthday at exactly 12:00 AM he now needs an alarm to do this.

You feel like your birthday isn’t that big of a deal these days.

The number of true friends you have can be counted on one hand.


All in all my birthday was a success. At first I wasn’t feeling it but with a little nudge from my BFF Shannon I managed to get dress, step away from Netflix, run a comb through my hair, and go out for a round of drinks. Later I had some delicious German chocolate cake and then I had some more for breakfast. Back to better eating tomorrow!

Everyone who knows me knows I love Target. I don’t think I’ve gone a week without stopping in that store especially with Starbucks in there. It’s like crack and they know it. You could be going in there to buy a toothbrush and end up spending $100 easily.

On one of those I’m just going to buy baby wipes and conditioner trips, they suckered me in yet again.

It started with Valentines Day gift bags in the dollar bin and ended with Chobani.

Chobani is one of my favorite Greek Yogurts and Target always has flavors the grocery store doesn’t have.

When I saw Blood Orange, Passion Fruit, and Apple Cinnamon I had to try even though they are a bit pricier.


Yummy! I love all the flavors especially Blood Orange. In fact this morning I topped off my pancakes with the apple cinnamon.

Very Good. I don’t even remember the last time I made pancakes. I’m too lazy these days and it just seems daunting for a non morning person like myself.

FYI: I totally forgot to post this the other day. Today’s breakfast was a piece of birthday cake ( I know, I know) but as my BFF says you only turn 25 once haha.

26 Pounds

26 pounds.

26 pounds.

Only 26 pounds left to lose.


I’ve put my mind to it and I’m going to lose this weight.

I’m dedicated.

I’m serious.

I will achieve this!

It’s the end of week 1 and I’ve lost 1 pound so far. Not bad.


I’ve been drinking water like a mad woman. I fill up my water bottle 5 or 6 times a day. Try it. The experts are right when they say it’s usually thirst and not hunger provoking us to eat.


Along with water guzzling, I’ve been consistently logging my meals on My Fitness Pal. My daily allowance is 1210 calories and I eat my exercise calories back. It seems counterintuitive but this actually works.

The last thing I’ve been doing is exercising. Duhhh right?  I workout six days a week and do a mixture of running (when it’s not freezing), tabata protocol on the stationary bike, and the 30 Day Challenge on EA Sports Active for Wii.

The last thing I’ve been doing is trying to get lots of sleep. Sleep is key. Everything combined has given me lots of energy throughout the day and I’m hoping to keep this momentum going when school starts back up.

For now I’m off to drink a cup of peppermint tea and watch my Sunday reality shows. Stay tuned for a detailed post on my workouts. For someone who is too cheap broke at the moment to continue her gym membership.

Happy New Year

Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a good holiday. I’ve been trying to adjust and get myself back to routine. School doesn’t start for another 2 weeks but I’ve been getting my eating on track and working out more.

I ate my weight in Hershey Kisses, Christmas Cookies, and a banana bread one of my friends baked us. I can’t forget marshmallows…mmm they didn’t even make it in my hot chocolate.

Santa was extremely generous to the Little Man and after 8 hours I finally got that kitchen together. The drill I had kept dying so I would have to take breaks every 10-15 minutes to charge.

After presents were opened my lovely best friend who moved to LA arrived and we hung out every day she was here. I miss her sooo much and hadn’t seen her since last year Christmas.

One night we went out to a bar and let me just say this was my first time being out at a bar (during non happy hour hours) since February 2010. I’m pretty low key and lame these days. It also ended up being gay night when we got there but we just ran with it.  The music is sooo much better (Britney Spears, Madonna, Lady Gaga), you can act as silly as you want, and they had a million cute martini specials.

Now that all that’s out of the way. Here’s a look at my recent eats.

Baked sweet Potato + green beans with garlic + herbed couscous, spinach + feta + pepperocinis +  tomato + cucumber + onion + turkey pepperonis and black bean burger + spinach + tomato + pickle + mustard + Alexia onion rings and asparagus.  Oatmeal w/ frozen blueberries.

I randomly found EA Sports Active for Wii while searching for my cell phone so I started that. I can’t believe it’s an actual workout. I legit sweat and feel the burn the next day. Crazy, Crazy. I’ve also been running (in the freezing cold), and doing the stationary bike (tabata intervals).

So that’s basically what’s been going on. I can’t wait to get back to regular posting.

Christmastime is (ALMOST) Here

Christmas is unbelievably close and I’m not ready. This morning I woke up and had some pumpkin spice coffee with a little foamy pumpkin spice soy milk. It was heaven. I realize that it is no longer pumpkin spice season but I’ve been looking for this milk F O R E V E R and I just found it at a different Whole Foods location than the one I normally go to.

So good and it was perfect with my little milk frother I picked up at Ikea while doing some shopping for part of Little Man’s gift.

We just finished making hummus with a can of chickpeas, some lemon juice, olive oil, and tahini simple and easy. Then I spread it on a whole wheat tortilla and added some kalamata olives, a sprinkle of feta, spinach, tomato, and a little leftover rotisserie chicken.

Had a tangerine on the side. FYI I’m the worlds most horrible burrito/wrap wrapper. Despite the ugly picture this really was a yummy lunch.

I’m off to finish some last minute shopping, baking, DIY gift making, and conquering the painstaking task of putting together this kitchen from Santa. According to the reviews on amazon it will take at least 4 hrs oy vey!


Are you done with all your shopping? I’m definitely a last minute person when it comes to everything. I think I thrive on the pressure.

Vacation Y’all

I am as New England as you get but I love saying y’all.

Vacation is finally here! I am soo happy to have a month to relax and catch my breath. At the moment I have no idea what my final grade is in nutrition but I got an 86 on the exam. My  final grade in chem was a B-. That makes me so happy because we all know science is most definitely NOT my subject.

With all of that out of the way I’m happy to finish decorating for the holidays and get back into the kitchen. It’s been awhile since I’ve cooked. I also have to figure out what I’m going to bake for Christmas. Last year I had the idea to do little gift baskets with baked goods as gifts but both Little Man and myself got the stomach flu. I still have all the tins and baskets stored away though.

I am going to do a separate post about all my favorite holiday stuff. So look out for that later.

Lunch today was tuna on toast with collard chips. Super yummy, easy to make…and healthy!

I just found out Little Man likes tuna so I wanted to try a healthier version to see if he’d still eat it.


1 pouch of tuna packed in water

Plain greek yogurt (instead of mayonnaise)

Spicy Mustard

Onion chopped

For the collard chips I used this recipe from Clean Eating Mag

I decided to switch things up this week and buy spinach and collards instead of kale.  But if you are partial to kale I’m pretty sure you can use this same recipe or try my kale chips.
